If you collect a new item during a cutscene/cinema, either (a) your held weapon will temporarily "vanish" because the item you collected wasn't a weapon that can be held (but attacking will bring it back, as it wasn't actually "un-equipped"), or (b) your held weapon will temporarily "change" to the item you collected if it was also a weapon that can be held too (but it isn't really "equipped," if you understand me by now).
