Okay, let's make it clear : this is NOT a good level  . Well, actually, I don't consider this being a level at all.

Storyline : I know some great levels in which a plot doesn't seem to exist. But you tried to tell us one... And it was awful the way you made it. (-1)

Design : The design is kinda what shows to the public how much effort you tried to put in a level. I can accept the fact that you don't put a lot of details everywhere. Once again, there are very good levels which aren't wonderfully decorated... But you, you just made stone tubes containing too much Karbs falling in bad-layered lava in front of the generic tiles+background combination. When I saw this, I knew it wouldn't be better further on. Seriously, it doesn't even have music. (-2)

Gameplay : You basically go through a door [A door which we don't really know why it appeared out of nowhere, why it even existed since you could have just teleported the player after the Screen text] and have to defeat two giant 100hp Karbs... And that's all. I wasn't expecting much of this level but you could atleast give us a end portal or anything. The level would be easy if it had an end, but it doesn't. I felt like I had wasted my time. (-2)

Overall : 0/5 Can do the same in less than one minute while eating and watching Tv. I'm sorry if you find my review offensive by any means but a level like that deserves it. Since it seems to be your first level [and because you can't vote 0 star on a level], you get (+1).

@ Niicola:
The Level was actually meant as joke. While not one of Bryan's best ones, it wasn't supposed to be taken serious. But that's not actually my point here. Once the approval system is up, a few beginner levels, which might not be as good as expected, will certainly get into the portal sometimes. If amateurs, especially from the younger audience experience feedback like this, it's not helping them at all. It might probably even be taken as personal attack. (It certainly is one.)

Even if you're facing a beginner, try to stay friendly. If you're not able to do so, you might reconsider responding in the first place or ignore it until you're more calmed.

This reply is actually a pretty good example on how NOT to react towards other people's work. Keep in mind that you certainly wouldn't want others replying this way to you too.

In short. This behaviour is not tolerated in the portal.

I just thought we could all share a nice meal together. :(

BY, I don't consider niicola's review out of line because his criticisms, while certainly not phrased in the most charming and elegant manner, are still completely valid. As a reviewer, your utmost priority is to express to your audience what you took away from a particular experience/piece. If playing my level resulted in an overly negative experience (for example, if niicola didn't find my level particularly well-designed or fun), then he has every right to address that in his review. His job is not to be friendly but to be honest.

I fully understood that tension can arise between people when someone takes a review the wrong way, especially one that is worded like the aforementioned. One key thing to keep in mind is that reviews are not meant to be taken as personal insults, and should never be treated as such. As an author/creator, you must be prepared to distance yourself from your work in order to maintain composure in the case that your work is highly critiqued (or even praised, for that matter), so that you don't interpret said criticisms as personal attacks. While I agree that the potential younger audience you mentioned are the most likely members to misinterpret these reviews, I don't think it's fair to expect a reviewer to reword his argument in the case that an author may take offense to it, regardless of age. The author and his work are two separate things, and we need to treat them as such.

Finally, I just want to clear up a few quick things. There are two exceptions to this argument that I can think of right now: when a reviewer directly insults the author in his review, and when his review is so poorly constructed (in terms of length and phrasing) that it can't in good conscience be considered a review to begin with. Moreover, I personally found niicola's review quite funny because of its irony; he played the level under the impression that it was the first I've ever created (which he clearly does given by his final statement), yet it was so painfully obvious to you and anyone else who knows me that this was intended to be a "joke" level. In a way, his reaction is the greatest thing that could have possibly come out of this. Beyond that, I have no qualms with his review, and I don't think anyone else should either.

Now then, I'll just take my crab soup elsewhere...

Will we ever get a thumbs-up system?

I'd give Bryan ten. This is the most well-said thing I've found on this site.

Did I... just missed a joke or something ? In all cases, eventhough I fully understand that a reviewer shouldn't "reword his argument", I wish to apologize. I realised that I may have been a little harsh. -BY, I'm curious on how you would have reacted if this was to be taken seriously.
-BY wrote:This reply is actually a pretty good example on how NOT to react towards other people's work. Keep in mind that you certainly wouldn't want others replying this way to you too.

Well actually, as I said, I didn't consider that as "work". I would never write such rewiew on a level which contained a minimal amount of effort. Here, I wanted to be brutal to make the author realise he couldn't just post levels like that. I thought I was doing well... sorry
